TROY, N.Y. >> A Johnsonville man recently plead guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated in Rensselaer County Court.

Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove recently announced that Terry M. Brust, 27, plead guilty to one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a class E felony. Authorities said on October 15, 2018, the defendant pled guilty to the charge listed above stemming from an accident that occurred on June 2, 2018.

Officials said in June, Brust fled from Troy Police when they attempted to stop him for a traffic infraction, and in doing so, struck a New York State Police vehicle. He then led members of the Troy Police Department and New York State Police on a motor vehicle chase that ended abruptly when he ran a stop sign, crashing into an oncoming vehicle.

Officials said no one was injured seriously in the crash.

Authorities said that bloodwork showed that Brust had a blood alcohol content of .26% and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

As a result of the plea, Abelove said the defendant will be sentenced to one to three years in state prison and revocation of his license.

Officials said the defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on November 5, 2018, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse before the Honorable Debra J. Young.

Abelove said in a news release, “This defendant’s reckless actions put lives at risk. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, and the defendant will be going to prison where he belongs.”

Assistant District Attorney Nicholas W. Dorando prosecuted the case.
