Revolutionary Run benefits veterans in need
SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. >> More than 300 runners and walkers on Saturday took part in the seventh annual Saratoga County Veterans Trust Fund 5K Race, better known as the Revolutionary Run, a fundraiser that benefits the Saratoga County Veterans Agency’s Veterans’ Trust Fund.
With the proceeds raised from the registration fees, the county veteran’s agency is able to help individual veterans who are in need.
“Thanks to this race we’re able to step in with emergency grants for these veterans where other forms of assistance aren’t there or aren’t available,” Saratoga County Veterans Agency Director Frank McClement said. “Say a veterans needs financial help to repair their vehicle so they can get to their job, or a job interview, . having these funds available allows us to do those things.”
McClement said funds from the agency have helped veterans with college textbooks and items like repairing a hot water heater.
“Our first move is to try and get them assistance from the organizations that are out there for the veterans but for some things it just doesn’t work out so we pick up the ball,” McClement said.
Through the years the race has continued to grow in stature among those that run it as well as with its crop of volunteers. One reason for that is many know that it benefits the veterans. Another reason is that it’s a certified event that happens to have one of the most scenic routes in the upstate area.
The race starts and ends at Ft. Hardy Park in Schuylerville. In between it follows the Old Champlain Canal and the present- day
