JAMES E. MADDEN
NORTH GREENBUSH - James E. Madden 93, formerly of Wynantskill, passed away on November 4th, 2018 surrounded by family. Once again content, he is reunited in heaven with his wife and best friend Joan, whom he married on Sept. 28th, 1947. Born in Troy, NY on December 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas and Sadie Kane Madden. He served in the US Army in the Philippines during WWII and after his honorable discharge, Jim worked as a Specifications Engineer for the NYS OGS retiring in 1982. A communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, he was also a member of the American Legion, the Troy Lodge of Elks, the Wynantskill Fire Department, and a proud Irishman in the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He previously volunteered in Cub Scouting, Little League and as a Lt. Colonel in the NY Guard. He enjoyed anything that involved spending time with his wife Joan which included square dancing, travel, local restaurants and the Yankees. Together, they were a common sight walking the streets of Wynantskill on a daily basis. He was predeceased by his wife Joan LeBeau Madden, his brother Jack Madden and his 4 legged companion, Jack Daniels. A devoted husband and father he is survived by his sons, Michael J. (Robert C. Morell) Madden, James E. (Richie D.) Madden II, his sister in law Ruth Bouchey, several nephews and a niece. A special thank you to all of the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially the C1 family who cared for Jim during his time there. Purcell Funeral Home, Troy and at 9:30 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave., Wynantskill where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Jean’s Cemetery, Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m.
