First place within reach

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. >> The Adirondack Thunder can take sole possession of first place with a pair of wins Wednesday and Thursday at Manchester and Worcester, respectively.

The Thunder (10- 3) are currently second in the ECHL’s North Division, two points behind frontrunning Newfoundland, but with three games in hand.

A stable roster has contributed greatly to their early season success, as there have been few injuries or player call-ups to AHL teams.

“There’s no doubt about it, any time you have the same lineup every day it’s huge,” Coach Alex Loh said. “Luckily, so far, there hasn’t been a whole lot to fix and anybody that’s stepped in has helped us out.”

Wednesday’s contest at Manchester is a special 10 a.m. mat-

inee against the Monarchs (4- 6-1-1). From there, the Thunder travel to Worcester for an 8 p.m. showdown against the Railers (3-8-1- 0) on Thursday.

Adirondack has won eight of its last nine contests and is playing almost as good on the road (5-2) as at home (5-1).

The trip continues Sunday at Brampton, Ont., where the Thunder suffered their most recent loss, 5-1, on Nov. 7.

They return home on Thanksgiving eve – Wednesday, Nov. 21 – against Man-

chester, which begins a stretch of three games in four days that concludes Saturday, Nov. 24 in Glens Falls, against Reading.

Eight of this month’s 11 games are on the road, but the schedule is still a lot kinder than last year’s when Adirondack had to play a number of Sunday afternoon games in Reading, Pa., following a Saturday night contest in Glens Falls.

The Thunder are coming off back-to-back wins against Reading last weekend, including a 3-2 victory that went to an overtime shootout.

It doesn’t matter how they do it, Loh just wants the team to keep putting

up “W’s.”

So far, he’s made a smooth transition to his new job as head coach following three years as Adirondack’s associate coach.

“It’s certainly different,” he said. “There’s no one to turn to when you have a question or need to make a decision. It’s all on you.”

PROMOTIONS: On Wednesday, Nov. 21, any student that shows a college identification at the box office can receive a $10 ticket.

On Saturday, Nov. 24, the Thunder will host a Hockey Fights Type 1 Diabetes night. The Thunder will wear specialty warmup jerseys that will be available for fans to bid on through a silent auction.

Saturday, Dec. 1 is the annual canned food drive – bring a canned or non-perishable food item as a donation and receive a ticket redeemable for the Thunder game on Dec. 28. All collections will be donated to the Open Door Mission in time to supply families in need with food for the holidays.

The following Saturday, Dec. 8, is the Thunder coat drive – bring a coat to donate and receive a ticket to the game on Jan. 4. This date also marks the initial postgame skate with the Thunder team, sponsored by Glens Falls Hospital. Make sure to bring your pair of skates to lace up and twirl around with the pros after the game.
