Giving Thanks to Veterans
Veteran residents given gifts at Guenette Apartments
TROY, N.Y. – The month of November means giving thanks and giving back. On Veterans Day we honor those who have served our nation so dutifully. Thanksgiving marks a time when we can all reflect and be thankful for what we have.
Bringing the spirit of the season together means we can also be thankful for those freedoms and those who fought to protect them.
“It’s an honor to be here today to support these veterans. We all know the sacrifices that veterans make for our country. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have our freedoms that we have today,” Joseph Simonik, of Disabled Veterans Chapter 38 said of the veterans.
Wednesday morning, representatives from the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 38 and Vietnam Veterans of Amer- ica Capital District Chapter 8 gathered at the Peter M. Guenette Apartments in Lansingburgh, in order to thank the veteran residents for their service to our country.
During a ceremony, each of the veterans was handed a gift to use for the holidays.
“I’d like to thank all of the veterans that are here at Guenette Veterans housing and we appreciate their service,” Simonik added.
If you’d like to help out veterans, on the fourth Wednesday of each month Chapter 38 holds meetings at 7:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s of Lansingburgh DAV and Chapter 8 meets on the third Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Legnard- Curtin American Legion Post in Green Island.
