John P. “Jake” Carley, 71, of Troy, entered into eternal life and peace on Monday, November 19, 2018. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Casey Carley and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and the University of Albany from where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education. Mr. Carley, Coach or Jake, as many have come to know him, retired from the Guilderlan­d Central Schools where he had been a Global Studies Teacher for over 30 years as well as having been a Coach of the Football, Lacrosse and Track & Field teams. Jake also owned and operated the Knotty Pine Restaurant for many years in the Beman Park neighborho­od of Troy. Always an advocate for his own children and the community children, Coach was very instrument­al in establishi­ng the Troy Youth Lacrosse, reviving the lacrosse program at Troy High School and also volunteere­d for many years in any way that he could with TAYHA (Troy Albany Youth Hockey Associatio­n). “Coach Carley” will be greatly missed by so many of the young lives that he touched. Jake was an avid golfer and had been a long-time member of both the Western Turnpike and Frear Park Golf Leagues. He was so proud to have accomplish­ed every golfers dream of having a “Holein-One”! Husband of Patricia Broderick Carley, father of Lynn Arnold of Ghent, Daniel Carley of Chicago, IL and the late John Broderick Carley, brother of Edward (Carol) Carley, Richard (Dianne) Carley and Michael (Jacqueline) Carley, all of Troy and Annette (Tom) Boeckling of CA, brother-in-law of Nancy (Art) Waugh of Slingerlan­ds, also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 24th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick St., Troy, NY 12180. Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy at the convenienc­e of the family.
