ALBANY, N.Y. >> A 25-year- old Troy man recently pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm in Albany County Court, according to Albany County District Attorney David Soares.

Soares recently announced that Raymeir Worthen, 25, of Troy, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in, a Class C felony, before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court.

Officials said that on May 14, 2018, at approximately 5:34 p.m., in the area of Lark Street and State Street in the City of Albany, officers of the Albany Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Worthen was the passenger.

Authorities said after further investigation, Worthen was found to be in illegal possession of loaded firearm, specifically a sawed- off 12-gauge Mossberg 500A shotgun with five live shotgun ammunition.

Officials said Worthen possessed said firearm with knowledge of his previous felony conviction, making it illegal for him to possess any weapon.

According to a news release, Worthen faces 8 years in State Prison, to be followed by 5 years of Post- Release Supervision, when sentenced on January 24, 2019.

Assistant District Attorney Megan Spillane of the Street Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
