Sciacca named Regional Editor in Chief of The Record

Boston Herald Editor in Chief Joe Sciacca has been named to oversee the editorial operations of seven daily newspapers in Digital First Media’s Northeast Cluster, the media company announced today. As Regional Editor in Chief, Sciacca will oversee DFM’s papers in Massachuse­tts and New York . Those papers i nclude t he Boston Herald; The Lowell Sun; Sentinel & Enterprise of Fitchburg; the Daily Freeman in Kingston, The Record of Troy, The Saratogian of Saratoga Springs and the Oneida Daily Dispatch. “Joe has the deep journalism experience and innovative approach needed to lead the editorial operations of our Northeast properties,” said Regional Publisher Kevin Corrado. “The audience reach of our cluster and the combined impact of our journalism is a powerful combinatio­n. Joe’s appointmen­t to this new position will ensure that we make the most of our synergies and best practices while preserving the individual identities of each of our excellent publicatio­ns.” Sciacca joined the Herald in

1983 and became Editor in Chief in 2010. He has four decades of daily newspaper experience as a reporter, political columnist and editor, starting out as a correspond­ent for the Lowell Sun and reporter for the Eagle-Tribune of Lawrence, Mass., before moving to the Herald.

He was awarded the Fitzwater Medallion for Leadership in Public Communicat­ion awarded by Franklin Pierce University, which selected him as visiting fellow this year. Under his leadership, the Herald has been recognized nationally for multimedia innovation.
