TROY – Lewis F. Smith, 83, of Lansingbur­gh passed peacefully on December 16, 2018 at the Diamond Hill Rehabilita­tion Center after a brief illness. Born in Troy he was the son of the late James and Margaret Fosmire Smith and the devoted husband of Shirley Rosen Smith who passed in 2004. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Lansingbur­gh High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1963. He had worked for the former Montgomery Wards in Menands for many years before working for the General Electric Company in Selkirk where he retired as a Supervisor. Lew was gifted with great athletic abilities, most notably for his pitching skills in Softball. He played at all of the ball parks throughout the area for many years, including his favorite 112th Street Park in Lansingbur­gh, and was a fierce competitor who truly loved the game. Lew was a member of the Veterans of Lansingbur­gh and the Friends of 112th Street Sports Hall of Fame. Survivors include his son Mark Smith ( Kristin), grandsons, Grady and Callen Smith and several nieces and nephews. Lew was predecease­d by his brothers, Donald and James Smith and his sister Dolores Lattimore. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am from the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home 870 Second Avenue (124th & 125th Streets) in Lansingbur­gh. Friends are invited and may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 to 6 pm. The interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylervi­lle at 11 am with full military honors.
