Police probe animal hoarding on Campbell Avenue

TROY, N.Y >> Officials with the Troy Police Department said that they are investigat­ing a home on Campbell Avenue that was hoarding several animals in it The police department said they received a tip via the online tip system stating that there was a house on Campbell Avenue in Troy that contained a large number of animals that were An not investigat­ion being cared was for. initiated and officers and detectives executed a search this morning at 92 Campbell Ave.

The officers said that they were met with a very foul stench upon entering the home and found a very large quantity of animals in the house.

Police said that many of the animals were in cages and some were roaming throughout the house.

Deputy Police Chief Dan DeWolf said at last count there were approximat­ely 38 dogs, at least the same number or more of cats, 6 ferrets and 18 birds.

With the aid of the Troy Police Department Animal Control Officer and other local ACO’s and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society many of the animals have been removed and are being looked after.

Police said that the house was also deemed unhabitabl­e by the Troy Department of Code Enforcemen­t and is locked down.

"The Troy Police Department thanks the Anonymous citizen that sent in this tip. Thankfully this case was acted upon quickly and these animals will now be in a safe environmen­t and cared for properly." DeWolf said in a news release.

DeWolf said the investigat­ion is continuing and that an update will be sent out when there is new informatio­n.
