Area gets $67M toward 95 projects
NEW YORK >> The New York State Regional Economic Development Council Awards were handed out across 10 regional councils including the Capital Region.
The Capital Region on whole was awarded $67 million toward supporting 95 projects.
The City of Watervliet received $170,000 toward Congress Street bridge waterfront access. The study will advance local waterfront revitalization program goals by addressing complete streets reconfigurations and providing a template for improvements that will foster increased pedestrian and bike traffic and provide traffic and roadway alternatives.
The AI Incubator project received $337,000 as the go-to resource for Microsoft, IBM, RPI, and Columbia University to help design and develop the solutions that will enable businesses to operate more efficiently.
The Paint Factory Mixeduse Building in Troy was awarded $700,000 and will provide a growth opportunity for each business at the new location along with a new business collaborative incubator office and 7 loft apartments above.
Capital Roots will use its $1,136,218 to construct a Net Zero greenhouse as part of its Urban Grow Center. The project will utilize energy- efficient greenhouse design, from a company that specializes in sustainable passive solar greenhouses.
Additional performance measures of the project in-
clude a geothermal heating system, solar, and battery storage system. The project is located in a designated Opportunity Zone census tract and is committed to providing job readiness training for the chronically unemployed.
City Station North will receive $1,700,000 revitalize an existing vacant 65,000 square foot building at 141 Congress Street in downtown Troy. The site will revitalize 40,000 square feet of office space, on-site surface parking, as well as a fourstory apartment building, 87 one-and-two bedroom units, a rooftop terrace, and a fitness center.
With $200,000 Hudson Valley Community College will expand its nursing lab in order to offer an accelerated nursing program and increase enrollment to meet the employment needs of the health care industry.
An amount of $42,000 will go toward the Museum Association of New York MANY Brings Smithsonian’s Water Ways to NY Museums MANYwill bring the Smithsonian’s Water/ Ways exhibition to six NY museums as it celebrates the Erie Canal Bicentennial. Museums will develop local exhibitions and programs to build tourism partnerships, engage their communities, and explore the importance of water in our history, art, and culture.
There will be $49,500 allocated to The Arts Center of the Capital Region Street Scenes: Public Art for the Capital Region Street Scenes: Murals for the Capital Region will lead creative placemaking and serve as a support center for the creation of public art. Modeling an alleyway mural, it will demonstrate how public/ private partnerships catalyze community investment and stimulate economic activity and tourism.
The amount of $57,000 will be given for MS4 Mapping as the Town of East Greenbush will complete Basic Comprehensive and Required Elements Mapping to comply with the town’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit.
The project will help the town to locate, track and monitor more than 120 stormwater drainage outfalls, facilitating a faster response to blockages, pollutant source identification, and upgrade planning.
An amount of $389,178 will go toward County Soil and Water Conservation District Upper Hudson River Watershed Roadside Erosion Remediation Phase 1
The Saratoga County Soil and Water Conservation District will stabilize 33.5 acres of roadside ditches at 92 sites in the Upper Hudson River Watershed. The project will improve water quality by reducing the amount of sediment and nutrients entering water bodies from roadside ditch erosion.
The total of $49,500 will go to Lakes To Locks Passage, Inc. Lock by Lock: Why the World Needs to KnowAbout the Champlain Canal Lock by Lock: Why the World Needs to Know About the Champlain Canal is a multimedia experience celebrating the unique canal heritage and identity. It includes a story-filled audio tour, canal-themed exhibit at the Visitors Center in Schuylerville, and online gallery: Art of the Champlain Canal.
A total of $30,000 will go toward the Mechanicville Sanitary Sewer Collection System Restoration Study. The City of Mechanicville will complete an engineering report to identify instances and causes of infiltration and inflow within the sewer collection system and provide rehabilitation recommendations.
An amount of $750,000 will go to the City of Mechanicville Water Mains Replacement Funds and will be used to replace water mains identified in its 2018 Water System Study.
A total of $74,000 will go to ERP System Training MDI East, Inc. which will provide training to its existing employees as they transition to a new ERP system.
A total of $195,000 will be allocated to Saratoga Performing Arts Center Saratoga Performing Arts Center MultiMedia Marketing Campaign Saratoga Performing Arts Center will increase cultural tourism to Saratoga Springs and the Capital District overall, by creating and executing an integrated marketing cam- paign ( TV, Digital/Social, Print, Outdoor) by promoting it as a world- class arts and culture destination to travel decision makers in suburban communities.
An additional $100,000 will be allocated to Saratoga Performing Arts Center SPAC Improvement Project The project will replace aging infrastructure and provide new facilities that will enhance the enjoyment of all visitors to SPAC within the Saratoga Spa State Park. These facilities will include classroom and gathering spaces that will be utilized in expanding educational programs, audience development and community engagement activities benefiting the diverse and underserved populations.
Plus, $500,000 will be allocated to Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Inc. SPAC Improvement Project Saratoga Performing Arts Center in the Saratoga Spa State Park will replace aging and inadequate restroom and concession facilities to improve visitor experiences, increase attendance, employment opportunities, and tourism. The project also includes new classroom and gathering spaces to enhance educational, audience development and community engagement opportunities to benefit all.
An amount of $750,000 will be allocated to the Town of Stillwater Water District #6 Water Line Replacement Funds will be used to replace sections of deteriorated water supply infrastructure.
A total of $94,752 will be given to the Saratoga Wesley Health Care Center, Inc. Certified Nurse Aide Training Program Wesley Health Care Center, Inc. and will provide training to individuals seeking employment as Certified Nurse Aides.
An amount of $511,700 will go toward the City of Watervliet Hudson Shores Park Shoreline Stabilization & Improvements. The City of Watervliet will implement a recommendation of their 2006 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program by making improvements to their nine- acre Hudson Shores Park. The project will include shoreline stabilization, management of invasive species and installation of native plantings, construction of ADAaccessible trails, riverfront access improvements, an amphitheater, and installation of new playground equipment and benches.
A total of $79,000 will go toward the City of Cohoes Hudson River Waterfront Park Design. The City of Cohoes will advance its Urban Waterfront Rediscovery Plan goal of creating waterfront access by designing a new public park on Van Schaick Island along the Hudson River. The park will feature a boat launch, docking, green space, seating, lighting, shoreline stabilization, parking and a pathway connecting to the Black Bridge Trail.
