Waterford, New York - On January 3, Herbert H. “Hal” “Papa” Richtol, beloved father and grandfathe­r, passed away peacefully after a long illness, at the age of 86. Papa will be forever remembered by his children Susan Marschilok (Stephen), Elise, Michael, daughter-in-law Cheryl; and the grandchild­ren who were his pride and joy Amanda Marschilok, Allison Savage (Ben), Caroline Himamshu (Varun). Hal was predecease­d by his wife of 48 years Iris, and his wonderful oldest daughter Nancy. He will also be forever remembered by his brother-in-law Robert “My Bobby” Klar, his sister-in-law Donna Klar Haralampus, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. An army veteran, Hal had a long and distinguis­hed first career at RPI in Troy, NY as professor emeritus chemistry and then dean; and a full and fruitful second career at National Science Foundation in Arlington, VA as a program director. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, at 1:00pm: Levine Memorial Chapel; 649 Washington Ave., Albany. Interment will follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery: 51 Belle Ave., Troy.
