HOMICIDE IN THE COLLAR CITY
Police said 21-year-old Brianna Hauhgton is the victim in a homicide investigation
TROY, N.Y. >> Troy police have identified the victim of a Sunday evening homicide at 491 Pawling Ave. as 21- year- old Brianna Haughton.
According to Troy Police Chief Brian Owens, Haughton, of Schodack, was found dead at the scene when police arrived around 5:30 p.m.
Owens said police do have a person of interest, but, “there has not been an arrest made relative to the homicide charge at this point.”
Officials said there is currently a parole hold on the person of interest.
Owens also noted there appears to be a connection to the victim and person of interest.
While unsure of a connection, if any, to the person of interest, Owens said a child for whom the welfare check was initiated, is related to the victim.
“The original call that was received was to check the welfare and well being
and that’s how we arrived at the Pawling Avenue address. Information was developed that there was an infant believed to be in the home and was not located at the time. So there was concern that the whereabouts of the infant was unknown to us. Through
members of the patrol bureau and the detective bureau, they developed information and they located an address and they were able to find the child and the child was safe,” Owens said of how the child was found.
A second call led police to further investigate their current person of interest.
“There was a second call that led us to some more information with a call at
the hospital for a male with significant wounds,” Owens said. “The person of interest that we have identified did have injuries; how they were sustained is unclear at this point. I believe it was Samaritan initially
and then Albany Med. He’s in stable condition.”
Police are still determining the relationship between the victim and the person of interest and if he was living at the residence or if he is a Troy resident.
