TROY, N.Y. >> The Troy Police Department welcomed two new officers to its force.

Jeremy Snyder and Timothy Dennin were sworn in by Troy Mayor Patrick Madden at a City Hall ceremony on Monday morning.

Family, friends, fellow officers, and elected officials were on hand as the two set to embark on their journey at the Zone 5 Training Academy.

Snyder was joined by his parents, while Dennin was accompanied by his wife during the swearing-in ceremony.

“This is a watershed event in their lives and it is a day they join a very highly regarded department in which they will receive the training and experience to advance their careers,” Madden said.

“On behalf of the citizens of Troy, I thank you and your family on the sacrifice you are about to make. Thank you for your service,” Mayor Madden added of the significance of the occasion.

Troy Police Chief Brian Owens was also elated to have the two new officers join the department.

“We’re absolutely excited to have any new members. It’s a difficult job so that people are still willing to take on the position of police officer in this day and age, it’s great. So these two individuals, they have a deep connection to the city of Troy, whether they grew up here, went to school here, one has a family business in the city, so it’s great to have that connection to the city and the people of the city,” Owens said.

With the two new additions, the number of vacancies in the department is down to four.

“We’re in good shape staffing wise; we’re trying to fill the va- cancies that we have. We still have some more vacancies to try and fill after this. Wemay look at doing some lateral candidates,” Owens noted of the department staffing situation.

“It’s good, it’s good for the city to bring in new members, it keeps the department young, a lot of energy and we’re looking forward to having them,” Owens added of the two new officers.

After completing their academy training, both officers are expected to be on the beat by late summer.
