HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors the Simonik brothers of Troy at 8:30a.m. on February 11in the Legislative Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Building, 1600Seventh Avenue, Troy. John C. Simonik served as a US Army infantryman and Light Mortar Crewman in Italy during World War II and received the Purple Heart with 1Oak Leaf Cluster, the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Edward J. Simonik helped the war effort working at the Watervliet Arsenal before joining the Merchant Marine and earning the Atlantic War Zone Bar. He later became a US Marine Aviation Mechanic.
