HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors the Simonik brothers of Troy at 8:30a.m. on February 11in the Legislative Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Building, 1600Seventh Avenue, Troy. John C. Simonik served as a US Army infantryman and Light Mortar Crewman in Italy during World War II and received the Purple Heart with 1Oak Leaf Cluster, the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Edward J. Simonik helped the war effort working at the Watervliet Arsenal before joining the Merchant Marine and earning the Atlantic War Zone Bar. He later became a US Marine Aviation Mechanic. HUDSON CROSSING WINTERFEST: The theme for the third annual Hudson Crossing Park Winterfest is “Han Snowlo: A Winterfest Story.” The public is invited to join the Rebel forces for “Return of the Sled-I” sledding and “Empire STRIKES Back” snow bowling. UNDER FOUR FLAGS: Musicians of Ma’alwyck commissioned composer Max Caplan to write a score for violin, cello and piano to accompany “Under Four Flags,” a 25-minute documentary film from 1918 about the American Expeditionary Force in France during World War I. The film will be screened with a live performance of Caplan’s score at 1p.m. at the University Club of Albany, 141 Washington Avenue, as part of Musicians of Ma’alwyck’s 20th anniversary celebration.
