Troy police make arrest in recent Pawling Ave. homicide
TROY, N.Y. >> The Troy Police Department announced Tuesday afternoon that an arrest has been made in the homicide death of 21-year- old Brianna Haughton
Haughton, of Schodack, was brutally killed on January 13, 2019, in a residence located at 491 Pawling Ave.
Last month, police said the call was dispatched at around 5:30 p.m. for a welfare check and the victim was discovered
around that time.
Last month, police also said that a child had been located safely. City police said that child was related to Haughton.
On Tuesday, city police said they arrested Rashad Edwards on an indictment warrant charging him in connection with the homicide death of Haughton.
Authorities said Edwards is currently incarcerated at the Rensselaer County Jail and was processed at the jail.
Edwards is set to appear for arraignment in Rensselaer County Court, Wednesday, Feb. 20 and a formal reading of the charges will occur at that time.
The Troy Police Detective Bureau, along with the aid of the NYS DOCCS (Parole), NYSP and members of the FBI- Albany Field Office said they worked tirelessly to present a strong case for prosecution.
“As we announce this arrest [on Tuesday], we are thinking of Brianna, her young child, and the family and friends that she left behind,” Deputy Police Chief Dan DeWolf said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
