COHOES, N.Y. >> A 27-year- old Spindle City resident recently announced her candidacy for a Cohoes Common Council seat.

April Trudeau said that she is running as a Democrat for the 6th Ward council seat.

Trudeau has been a lifelong Cohoes resident and graduated with an Advanced Regents Diploma from Cohoes High School. She then attended Hudson Valley Community College.

Trudeau has been employed for the last 12 years at Applied Label and is currently Vice President in charge of sales and purchasing.

“This career has provided me with the experience of operating a business and money management. I believe my experience in these things will be a great asset for the position of council member,” said Trudeau in a news release.

Trudeau said she believes that the city has been progressing over the last few years and she hopes to contribute to that and be a representation for the constituents of the 6th Ward.

“My intentions are to not only maintain taxes, but to bring solutions to lower them,” she said. “My ideas also include a beautification reward program, youth program funding programs, and work with property owners in efforts to improve properties.”

Trudeau also noted that she intends to support and encourage businesses in the 6th Ward.

“I aim to support and encourage businesses on the island where it is compatible with business zoning, along with existing businesses. Protecting the re-

maining wildlife on the island is another interest I have,” she said.

Trudeau said she would like to host quarterly “town hall” meetings in the 6th Ward so that she can hear from constituents.

“As a council member, I will be representing the people of the 6th Ward, which means I will speak for their wants and needs and be as much of a hands-on council member as possible,” said Trudeau. “All ideas, plans, and suggestions will be listened to and considered. I will make it my goal to be your voice and improve our ward by your side.”

Trudeau ran for the Common Council seat in the last election and noted that she appreciates everyone who supported her then and is appreciative to anyone that will support her again this year.

Trudeau said she can be reached for any suggestions, ideas or requests on her campaign Facebook page titled Friends of April Trudeau.
