TROY, N.Y. >> The downtown district will light up with winter warmth on Friday for its monthly Troy Night Out event, themed Winter Lumify.

Event- goers are invited to shop, dine and explore downtown Troy from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday while supporting the district’s many small businesses.

The Downtown Troy Business Improvement District has partnered with Zachary Pearson, a graduate student at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Lighting and Research Center, to create a one-of-kind lighted experience.

Pearson, who also assisted with the Breathing Lights public art project in 2016, has recently worked with the individual business owners to create installations that highlight their business with light as a medium this Troy Night Out.

String lights, projections, colored acetate, black lights and more are expected to bring to life the windows and spaces of downtown Troy.

A display titled “Night Read” at Market Block Books transports viewers from the street with soft clouds casting a glow on trees and an enchanted book brings stories to light.

A brilliant wall of light will serve as the backdrop for antique- shoppers at Artcentric, and floating explosions of light will ignite the windows of AMC Jewelry and Décor.

The Daily Grind will be serving up a “Cup of Glow” beyond the shop’s iconic neon sign.

Troy Cloth and Paper will present “Colorscape and Troybot Alive,” at which attendees can take a photo inside a field of colors, make shapes and shadows and see Troybot spark to life.

Nighthawks aims to brighten up the winter with its summertime preserves, and true upstate New York farm to table cuisine.

PlumbOyster Bar is going deep blue, featuring a blue Mood Ring cocktail with a color-changing twist, while Bard & Baker Board Game Café serves specialty cocktails with LED ice cubes & pop rocks.

The Arts Center of the Capital Region is “Glow Central with Light Art Starring YOU!” Visitors can have fun with black light crafts, silkscreen, and glowin-the-dark t-shirts alongside a skate demo. Guests can also be the center of a piece of light art with two long exposure photo experiences.

All ages can enjoy “Troy’s Got Talent!” at Victorious Life Christian Church, with a percentage of ticket sales befitting Habitat for Humanity of the Capital District.

Rensselaer County Historical Society opens its 2019 exhibition season with “Bridging Rensselaer County: Two Decades of Crossing The Hudson.” The timely exhibit highlights the changing technology, vigorous competition behind their locations and the drama of fire and ice.

As with every Troy Night Out, there will be live music around downtown, for all ages, performed by all ages. Bootleggers on Broadway welcomes back 15-year-old prodigy David Tomasek. The Ruck features the Capital Region’s own Justin Friello and Superior Merchandise Company continues the Upstate love with Honey Slider and Andrew Mirabile.

This February Troy Night Out “Winter Lumify” event is sponsored by Bob Bedard and The Church. Located in Troy, The Church serves the Capital District’s art community, offering artist studios and event space.

Troy Night Out programs will be available at participating downtown businesses, the Downtown Troy BID office located at 251 River St. or online at www.downtowntroy.org/troy-nightout. Listings are also available via the event stroll mobile phone app.
