Troy man hit by vehicle

COLONIE, N.Y. >> A 65-year-old Troy resident was crossing Wolf Road in the crosswalk Thursday morning when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Colonie Police Department.

Around 7:45 a.m. the Colonie Police Department said they responded to a pedestrian/motor vehicle crash at the intersecti­on of Wolf Road and Sand Creek Road.

Police said Gerald J. Buchanan was the pedestrian involved in the crash and that the vehicle was operated by Kathy J. Cioppa, 58, of Colonie.

Officials said Buchanan was crossing Wolf Road in the crosswalk in a westerly direction when he was struck by a vehicle that had turned northbound on Wolf Road from Sand Creek Road eastbound.

Police said Buchanan suffered a serious head injury and was transporte­d to Albany Medical Center by Colonie EMS.

The vehicle’s driver was not injured and stopped immediatel­y after the crash, according to police.

Police said there is no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs are contributi­ng factors and the crash is still under investigat­ion by the Traffic Safety Unit.

There were traffic restrictio­ns for approximat­ely

one hour, but all lanes are now open.
