Area ice cream entrepreneurs learn about new trends
TROY, N.Y. >> Area ice cream entrepreneurs learned about some tasty new trends during a recent local Shakes & Cakes seminar.
Locally-based ice cream distributor Hill & Markes, of Amsterdam, and restaurant equipment company Taylor Upstate, of Troy, co- hosted the free event, held last week, at Taylor Upstate’s facility, to show their customers how to make unique shakes and cakes.
Attendees particularly enjoyed creating freak shakes, a new trend that involved stacking baked goods and other treats on top of a milkshake.
The seminar also demonstrated how to create and decorate ice cream cakes and increase profitability by offering more goods to go.
The Shakes & Cakes seminar was second in an upstate-wide series of four, to be followed by events in Watertown and Plattsburgh in coming weeks.
“We’ve had dozens of ice cream shop owners at our Shakes & Cakes seminars so far,” said Katie Bruno, digital content specialist at Hill & Markes, which, along with Taylor Upstate is committed to bringing ice cream trends throughout the state of New York. “The seminars are allow-
ing us to get crucial face-to-face time with our customers and answer any questions they might have before ice cream season is in full effect. Our customers are
engaged and leave each seminar ready and excited to bring new menu items to their shops, especially the Freak Shake!”
