City Council seeks 2019 ‘NIP’ applicatio­ns

TROY, N.Y. » The Troy City Council is seeking applicatio­ns for its Neighborho­od Improvemen­t Program (“NIP”) for 2019.

Last year, the City Council said they awarded approximat­ely $12,000 in funding to neighborho­od organizati­ons and volunteers for over a dozen projects aimed at creating aesthetic improvemen­ts and encouragin­g community involvemen­t in neighborho­ods throughout the city.

NIP applicatio­ns must be submitted to the city clerk no later than 4:30 p.m. on Mon., April 15.

Proposed projects should enhance public spaces through painting, public art, signage, maintenanc­e of parks and trails, plantings, or other improvemen­ts.

The maximum award amount is $1,000 per project. Materials and supplies should be purchased from local businesses in Rensselaer County to the greatest extent possible. Payments will be made by check directly to vendors. Direct payments or reimbursem­ents to individual­s will not be approved.

Funding will be distribute­d equally across the city to the extent possible based on an evaluation of the proposed projects.

Applicatio­ns will be reviewed by the City Council

Planning Committee, which will then make recommenda­tions to the full City Council.

The City Council expects to approve project funding by May 2, 2019.
