City officials announce update on downtown parking system
New pay-stations are set to be activated today
TROY, N.Y. » Collar City officials recently announced the completion of the first phase of upgrades to the City of Troy’s downtown parking system kiosks.
Officials said that the newlyupgraded digital pay- stations will be activated beginning Wednesday, March 20.
As part of the phased approach, officials noted that motorists will be able to pay by an app as well as the city attempts to make sure everything is working seamlessly.
Upgrades were made to all of the cabinet interiors with brand new mechanics. The meters have brand new batteries, credit card readers and functionality, according to a news release from city officials on Tuesday.
In addition to placing more meters throughout the core, existing boxes were upgraded as well.
“The deployment of new parking management technologies is part of our commitment to support Troy’s downtown business district and waterfront. These necessary upgrades will help improve available parking options for residents and visitors alike from across the Capital and ensures everyone can continue to enjoy Troy’s diverse array of small businesses, restaurants, craft breweries and boutiques throughout the year,” Mayor Patrick Madden said in the release.
With the continued growth of Troy’s downtown as a destination for residents, visitors, and commuters, the City of Troy undertook an effort to improve available public parking options, city officials said.
Recently- completed updates include the deployment and/or relocation of over 70 upgraded meters across the downtown parking network to improve management and available parking opportunities.
In the coming months, the city said that it will roll out additional improvements, including expanded visitor parking, striping of on- and off- street parking spaces, additional on-street spaces and loading zones, wayfinding signage, and other parking options outside the current metered zones.
Officials believe that the plan also enables more flexibility for motorists, enabling them to park for four hours, rather than being limited by two-hour restrictions.
The city said they will also give drivers a grace period as they become accustomed to and aware of the new parking setup.
