SWEARING-IN CEREMONY
Rensselaer County adds new corrections officers to its ranks
TROY, N.Y. » Rensselaer County increased its ranks of officers. In front of family, friends, fellow officers and county officials, nine new corrections officers were sworn in Monday morning.
The new corrections officers were administered their oaths by Rensselaer County Sheriff Pat Russo, at the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility.
Russo addressed the new corrections officers and spoke to their newfound responsibilities.
“I’d like to congratulate you all and I’d like to congratulate the families. Now that you’re a part of the law enforcement family, you hold yourself to a higher standard. When you’re out there in public, you’re not only going to be known as the person that you are but you’re going to be known as a representative of the sheriff’s office, so we expect all of you to conduct yourselves in an appropriate manner,” Russo said.
Russo also thanked the families on hand for their support and sacrifices.
“For the families, thank you again for showing up today, it’s very important that they have your support. They’re going to be having to work weekends, nights, holidays, until they get some seniority and it’s going to take them a little while, but it’s a good job, it’s a good career and with the family support I’m sure you all will be fine,” Russo noted.
Russo addit ional ly seemed pleased with his new corrections officers.
“Well, I’m very proud of the sheriff’s office and our correctional facility. It’s important that we get good candidates to bring on board. These candidates
all look good, now whether they stay here for their entire career or go somewhere else, I’m not sure, but I wish them the best of luck and while they’re here I’m sure they’ll do a fine job,” Russo added.
Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin also echoed Russo’s sentiments.
“It’s great to add to our team; we have a strong unit here, a strong group both on the road and inside our jail. They really do a good job under some difficult circumstances, so like I said I appreciate them stepping up and appreciate their families as well because they do serve as well, as the deputies and CO’s do,” McLaughlin said.
“It’s not an easy job, but it’s a very worthwhile and satisfying job and they provide vital work for us so we’re just happy to have them on board,” McLaughlin concluded.
