Over 1,000 backpacks filled and donated to CAP COM partners

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. » CAP COM Federal Credit Union’s charity program, the CAPCOMCare­s Foundation, recently completed its annual backpack program.

Each year the foundation aims to deliver backpacks filled with school supplies to local children in need.

This year, the program delivered 1,020 backpacks to 26 organizati­ons and schools in the Capital Region community.

New backpacks were filled with school supplies including notebooks, folders, pencils, crayons, rulers, glue sticks and more. Over 50 CAP COM employees volunteere­d their time to assemble, pack and deliver the backpacks over a week.

Backpacks were delivered the week of July 22nd – 26th to youth at the following organizati­ons: • Capital District YMCA • Centro CivicoS

• Center for Economic Opportunit­ies

• Equinox Youth Shelter • Franklin Community Center

• Girls Inc. of the Greater

Capital District

• Joseph’s House • Marillac Family Shelter • Shelters of Saratoga • St. Catherine’s Center for Children

• St. Paul’s Center • Geyser Elementary • Abram Lansing Elementary School

• Harmony Hill

• Heatly Elementary School

• LaSalle School • Menands School • Orenda Elementary School

• Rensselaer Park • Rensselaer County Department for Youth

• Troy Public Schools 14, 16, and 18

• Turnpike Elementary School

• Van Schaick School • Watervliet Elementary School

“We believe it doesn’t take much, but it does take us all. With the help of our volunteers we were able to supply hundreds of backpacks to local children,” stated Paige Rueckert, com

munity & youth advocate at CAP COM. “These children are our future and we hope that through this program we empower them to embrace education and learning all year long.”

CAP COM Cares Foundation was establishe­d by CAP COM Federal Credit Union in 2003 to nurture the community by supporting health and wellness programs, financial literacy and education initiative­s, and causes that assist underprivi­leged families.
