Wednesday, Aug. 14 SPEIGLE ELDERS MEETING:

The Speigle Elders will hold a business meeting at 12:30, August 14with monthly charity collection and summer beverages and dessert provided by Table 2members. EDITOR DISCUSSION:

Editors to Discuss “I’ll Be Home” at The Woman’s Club of Albany -The Woman’s Club of Albany will present a conversati­on with Darryl McGrath and Howard Healy, editors of “I’ll Be Home,” a collection of the writings of the late Times Union chief editorial writer Jim McGrath, at 7p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the club at 725Madison Ave., Albany. The book, published by Excelsior Editions, a SUNY Press imprint, features editorials and other pieces by Jim McGrath, who died in 2013. The editors are his wife, Darryl, and Healy, who was the longtime editorial page editor at the Times Union. The discussion will focus on Jim McGrath’s work, the role of editorial and opinion writing in our fractured society and the troubled state of daily journalism. A book signing will follow. Copies of the book will be available for sale at $20, cash or check. Proceeds will go to the porch repair fund at the Woman’s Club. The event is free and open to the public. will lead us as we explore this ecological­ly diverse area where the Hoosic River meets the Hudson. We’ll identify plants in meadows and on forest edges, shale ledges and floodplain­s. Meet at the parking lot at Lock 4 Canal Park in Schaghtico­ke. The park is on Stillwater Bridge Road between Stillwater and Schaghtico­ke, on the Schaghtico­ke side of the bridge crossing the Hudson.
