Schaghtico­ke Fair set to celebrate 200th anniversar­y this week

SCHAGHTICO­KE, N.Y. » This year marks the 200th anniversar­y of the Schaghtico­ke Fair.

The fair will be held from Wednesday, Aug. 28 until Sept. 2., with events and shows happening all day long.

The fair continues to be a showcase of the best that county residents and agricultur­e have to offer.

Building after building will be bursting with produce, livestock, antiques, and homemade baked goods and crafts.

Each day of the fair will feature unique displays and activities, as well as events that will happen every day. Daily events include milking demonstrat­ions, chainsaw carvings, pig races, and 4H silent auctions.

A highlight of this year’s fair is country music star, Trace Adkins. A Nashville icon for more than two decades, Adkins has made his mark on the country-music industry with 11 million albums sold, time-honored hit singles, Grammy nomination­s, and CMT and ACM awards.

Adkins will give a concert on Thursday night of the fair. Adkins is known for his hits “HonkyTonk Badonkadon­k”, “Ladies Love Country Boys”, “You’re Gonna Miss This”, “Arlington”, “Every Light In The House Is On.” Popular local artists, The Vinny Micheals Band, will be opening. Tickets are now on sale and must be purchased separately from fair admission.

Opening day of the Schaghtico­ke fair is just a few days away and tickets are on sale now.

Fairgoers can purchase single day passes, week passes, and wristbands for unlimited midway rides in advance.

Wednesday, opening day of the fair, is Dollar Day. Fair admission, ride tickets, and a selection of food and beverages will all cost $1 each.

Saturday, August 31 will feature a 200th- anniversar­y parade in front of the grandstand and fireworks at dark.

Free grounds entertainm­ent also includes Cirque Ma’Ceo under the Big Top Circus Tent. Reptile Adventures, Circus Incredible, Buffalo Barfield,

Swifty Swine racing Pigs, and more. Livestock shows will also take place all week.

Open Horse Shows run Friday, August 30 thru Monday, September 2nd. ( Hunt Seat, Over Fence, Western Pleasure and Ranch) Crafts, Homemaking and Horticultu­ral Entries are encouraged.

The remainder of the week, adult admission is $ 12. Admission includes access to the Grandstand and Stage areas. The highlights in the grandstand include the demolition derby, tractor pulls, truck pulls, and the rodeo.

“Since 1819, the Schaghtico­ke Fair has showcased the people, places, and things that make Rensselaer County and upstate [ New York] a great place to live. All of us at Rensselaer County are excited to join with the fair and support the fair as it celebrates the 200th anniversar­y of its founding,” said Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin on

Sunday.

“The fair is going big to celebrate its 200th, bringing in country superstar Trace Adkins for a special concert and other attraction­s and features,” McLaughlin added. “We invite residents from the county and region to visit the fair and see why it has been a summer tradition for two centuries.

“The county has been proud to provide special support to help make the 200th special and look forward to seeing everyone at the fair this week.”
