Stewart’s Shops celebrates grand opening
BRUNSWICK, N.Y. » In a move 23 years in the making, a brand new Stewart’s Shop opened in the town on Friday.
Officials marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting at the 10 Sweetmilk Creek Road location. There was also a stand with free ice cream, and specials on food, drinks and gas all day long.
“It’s like the mom and pop store you used to find on the corner when I was a kid and my grandmother would sent me out to get milk or get eggs,” New York State Sen. Daphne Jordan said. “We’ve got these beautiful new Stewart’s buildings all around us and we can get our gas here, we can get ice cream.
“I know my family, we only get our milk here.”
Echoing those sentiments was Rich Crist, on hand representing Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin.
“We’re very excited to see Stewart’s expanding. They have a great record of service and quality here in Rensselaer County. We’re excited seeing them out in Schodack as well and other areas in the county and continuing to grow,” Crist said.
To coincide with the grand opening, Stewart’s also donated $2,000 to the Brunswick Bulldogs to help with the purchase of new bleachers.
In addition to its array of
ice cream options, the new shop features a local flavor unique to Brunswick. The roof of the shop is topped with a weathervane from a barn close by. Plus, the interior of the shop displays a dedication sign which recognizes the historical house which once stood on the site and chronicles the history of the town.
As mentioned the growth of the shop is part of providing customers with a wider variety of food and beverage options and more convenience.
The Brunswick shop is part of a building expansion of 15 shops across the region in 2019, in which Stewart’s Shops is replacing older and smaller locations.
