DOT advises motorists of closures for Cohoes Boulevard
A portion of the boulevard will also be closed next week for more construction
COHOES, N.Y. » Motorists are advised that northbound Route 787 Cohoes, will be closed between Bridge Avenue and Route 32 ( New Courtland Street) starting Friday at 6 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m. as work continues to convert Cohoes Boulevard into a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly gateway to the Spindle City.
Northbound motorists will be detoured at Bridge Avenue to Saratoga Street (Route 32).
During the closure, Ontario Street traffic will not be able to cross Route 787. Southbound Route 787 lanes will remain open, except left turns onto Ontario Street will not be permitted.
The following weekend, southbound Route 787 traffic will be closed between Route 32 ( New Courtland Street) and Bridge Avenue starting Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. through Sept. 23 at 5 a.m. Southbound motorists will be detoured via Saratoga Street (Route 32) to reach Route 787 via Bridge Avenue.
During the Sept. 20 weekend closure, Ontario Street traffic again will not be able to cross Route 787. Northbound Route 787 lanes will remain open, except left turns onto Ontario Street will not be permitted.
Work and the scheduled closures are weather permitting. Work this weekend and next will allow for the installation of raised crosswalks at Bridge Avenue.
Drivers are advised to plan travels accordingly.
Motorists are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of a person’s driver license.
