CDPHP provides new food delivery truck to CEO
TROY, N.Y. » Commission on Economic Opportunity unveiled a new food delivery truck earlier this week.
The Head Start program at CEO in Troy provides healthy meals to children. The
More than 700 children in CEO’s Head Start classrooms receive a hot breakfast and hot lunch Monday through Friday as part of the Head Start program.
Recently, CDPHP helped make delivery of those meals easier by sponsoring the purchase of a new food transportation truck. The truck, which was unveiled earlier this week at the JLB Community Resource Center, will deliver those hot meals from the main CEO campus to three locations across Troy: The Lansingburgh FRC, Griswold Heights Community Center, and the Urban Training Center.
“We are incredibly grateful for this partnership with CDPHP,” stated Katherine Maciol, president & CEO of CEO. “Our previous truck was aging, and not all of our centers have kitchens in them. This truck will allow us to have a more efficient delivery system while still maintaining the quality family-style meals Head Start is known for.”
The food program in all of the CEO Family Resource Centers makes sure that all children are exposed to a wide range of healthy foods, and that all meals are warm, nutritious, and in accordance with the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) guidelines. The meals will be prepared at the JLB Community Resource Center and then transported to the three other locations where they will be served by staff as family- style meals across 21 classrooms.
“Trying to focus and retain information on an empty stomach is nearly impossible for adults, so I can only imagine how difficult it must be for students in school,” said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO of CDPHP.
“That’s why CDPHP is so pleased to support the CEO food truck and the daily delivery of hot, nutritious meals to more than 250 students in the Troy and Lansingburgh areas, ensuring that they start their days with full stomachs and clear minds,” he added.
