INTERFAITH STORY CIRCLE: Ruah: Breath, Wind, Spirit - Thursday, October 24, 20197-9pm, Church of St. Vincent de Paul Chapel, 900 Madison Ave., Albany. Breath, wind and spirit are around us and within us, and sometimes they manifest in unexplainable ways. Many people have had experiences of being touched by a loved one who has passed away. This experience can take many forms: a human shape, an animal, a flower, a cool breeze or a familiar fragrance. We might also keep our loved one’s spirit alive by honoring them with treasured rituals and stories of their time among us. Columbia High School in East Greenbush is hosting a Teen Harvest Dance on October 25, 2019. In the fall, STRIDE partners with the Columbia High School Peer Leadership Club to offer a Harvest Dance. The spooky evening begins at 7:00P.M. and will include tons of refreshments, games, and dancing! SILENT FILM WITH LIVE
SCORE: Join us at the Troy Public Library on Friday, October 25th at 6PM for their Troy Night Out event, the screening of an original silent film accompanied by a live original score performed by Bobby Kendall. Kendall will perform a live, original score to accompany his silent film, “Dreams”. “Dreams” is a fictional silent film meant to challenge the intent of aspirations and their effect on individuals and the world. The film follows three dreamers, each in different stages of their lives—one before accomplishing their dream, one in the process of trying to attain it, and one after achieving it. GENEALOGICAL PRESENTATION: Schuyler Mansion: A Genealogical Presentation - With the arrival of the musical “Hamilton” at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady in August, the “Schuyler Sisters” exhibit at the Albany Institute of History & Art from July to December, the Capital District is in a Schuyler Family frenzy. BOO2YOU HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL: The Glens Falls Collaborative announces its annual Boo2You Halloween festival to take place Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 2to 4p.m. Children and their grown-ups are encouraged to attend in costume to trick or treat and enjoy the festivities. Monday, Oct. 28 SHORT STORY READING & DISCUSSION GROUP: On Mondays, October 7th – November 11th at 6:30PM, Short Story writer David Sylvester will lead a reading and discussion group at the Troy Public Library. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester discusses the short story form, looking at how writers handle plot, character and theme in their writing. Each week we will read and discuss two stories by well-known masters of the form: Lori Moore, John Cheever, Sherman Alexi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Richard Wright, Alice Munro, Raymond Carver, Margaret Atwood and more. Tuesday, Oct. 29 HALLOWEEN COSTUME LUNCH: The Hoosick Falls Senior Center, 69Church Street, will host a Halloween Costume Luncheon on Tuesday, October 29 th at noon. Prizes will be awarded for costumes. The center will have music entertainment by one of our favorites, John Hill. All residents 60and older are invited to attend this free event. POESTENKILL SENIORS: The Poestenkill Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p.m. at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicap accessible, with sufficient parking. The Poestenkill Seniors hold catered luncheons, clam-steams and fish fries at the hall and also at various restaurants. Best of all they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest.

As more than 25% of seniors over 65live alone, it is important to be aware of potential dangers in the home, and to be prepared if an emergency does occur. Crime and the fear of crime create special problems for the elderly. Seniors are more vulnerable to crime, cons, and burglaries. This is a free presentation for seniors, as well as family members, friends and caregivers, to learn how to take proactive measures to protect the elderly, their property and their home against crime. NORTHEAST SKI & CRAFT BEER SHOWCASE: The Northeast Ski & Craft Beer Showcase will feature an all-new lineup of local and regional brews, wines and cider when it returns to the Albany Capital Center on November 1-3, 2019. The Saratoga Eagle Craft Beer Garden, presented by Great Lakes Brewing Company, will be open Friday from 4to 8:30p.m., Saturday from noon to 5:30p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m. (must be 21years of age or older with valid ID).
