School district schedules safety presentati­ons

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. » East Greenbush Central School District has scheduled three additional parent and community presentati­ons for this school year on important safety topics.

District officials noted how these informatio­nal presentati­ons support the district’s goals of continuing positive collaborat­ive relationsh­ips with families and cultivatin­g a safe environmen­t for students and staff.

Each of the three workshops are free to attend and will be presented in partnershi­p by the school district and the East Greenbush Police Department.

CRASE Training: Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events November 19, 2019 7 – 8:30 p.m.

The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. In today’s society, it is imperative that communitie­s have the knowledge and skills necessary to respond appropriat­ely in the event of an active shooter incident.

Heroin and Opioid Crisis Jan. 28, 2020

Presenter: Alyssa Evans, Student Assistant Counselor for East Greenbush CSD and Rensselaer County Mental Health, and Columbia School Resource Officer Marie Abraham

Parents will learn about

e- cigarettes, substances that may be used in these devices, the potential health risks of vaping and tips on how to address this growing issue with teens. In addition, with the rise of the heroin and fentanyl epidemic in today’s society, East Greenbush Detective Sergeant Michael Guadagnino will be presenting an awareness session on dangerous drugs and the threats they pose to students, parents and first responders.
