U.S. Army Career Center – supporting area military installations
On Jan. 31, the US Army Career Center opened in downtown Clifton Park in the Clifton Park Center Mall.
Staff and volunteer Ambassadors of the Capital Region Chamber cut the ceremonial ribbon welcoming the new center to the community, joined by area elected officials, local businesspeople, military staff as well as colleagues from the Saratoga County Chamber and its Veterans Business Council.
Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett expressed his gratitude at having the Army basing a Center here in Clifton Park and shared insight into the background of the men and women who will serve as staff for the new location. Senator Jim Tedisco, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, and Saratoga County Clerk Craig
Hayner also expressed their support and congratulations to Captain Mark Saunders and the Career Center staff during their remarks.
Attendees enjoyed refreshments and celebrated the happy occasion, and several people interested in military service walked in during the event.
Our region benefits greatly from its relationship with the US military. According to information compiled by Unified Military Affairs Council (UMAC), local military bases contribute more than $1 Billion each year to the Capital Region economy and are a major force in the relative prosperity of this part of the state.
From these bases, sailors learn to maintain the powerful nuclear engines on submarines and aircraft carriers, army guns and cannon are designed and constructed, and aviators routinely fly to Greenland and Antarctica.
The Unified Military Affairs Council (UMAC) is an initiative of the Capital Region Chamber. UMAC recognizes the importance our military installations and their significance to the overall well-being of the Capital Region. UMAC supports the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing, Naval Support Activity Saratoga Springs, Nuclear Power Training Unit Ballston Spa, Watervliet Arsenal, as well as other military units located within the Capital Region.
Their mission is to highlight the capacity of the military installations in the Capital Region and ensure their long-term viability. UMAC works to increase public knowledge of the contributions made by military units in the Capital Region, all of which impact the global, national, state and regional security and economy.
The US Navy is preparing to open its own recruiting center nearby, just a few doors down from its Army counterparts. The strong military presence in our community will continue, as will the legacy of military leadership, innovation, bravery and excellence that has been a hallmark of the relationship between this community and the US armed services since the foundation of our nation.
