Presidents day and snowfall come together at the right time
Cold weather and recent snowfall came at the right time of the season for the traditional Presidents Day holiday ski/snowboard crowd. All major northeast resorts reported heavy turnouts.
In addition to alpine skiing favorites, CrossCountry resorts were doing a brisk business. Kathy and Paul Zahray, owners of Lapland Lake in Benson, N. Y. sends along word that, “A Cross Country Ski Program Designed For Women and taught by women will be held at their popular Nordic Vacation Center, Saturday, February 29, from 9:30am to 2:30pm, with a pre-registration required for the five-hour ski program. Kathy says the program is led by Lapland Lake’s PSIA- certified instructors, Sherry Dixon, Susan Henriksson and Terry Ross. More information can be obtained at www. Laplandlake.com, or 518863- 4974. Lapland is now celebrating its 41 st winter season.
Jeff Blumefeld, says the International Skiing History Association (ISHA), has announced its 2019 Award Winners. Jeff says the annual awards recognizes “outstanding creative work in ski history.” The awards will be presented “March 26, 2020 at the historic Sun Valley Inn, Sun Valley, Idaho during ISHA’s annual awards banquet. The event takes place during Skiing History Week, March 25-29 in conjunction with the U. S. Snowboard Hall of Fame’s annual induction ceremony and a host of special events. Nearest to this region among the award winners, is Arthur Stegen ( New Paltz, N. Y.) in the Unique and Unknown category, The Story of
Biathlon in the United States.
