- By Record staff

COLONIE, N.Y. » Colonie police fielded a report from the Dunkin’ at 890 Loudon Rd. about several burglaries dating back to March 12.

According to police, the store was burglarized seven times during that time frame by what appeared to be the same individual based on recovered surveillance video. Police say the suspect used a key to enter, after closing time, and then a register code to steal money from the register.

The total taken during the seven burglaries was $564.25, police added. A suspect was developed from a list of past employees and similarity to the suspect captured on video.

On the evening of March 24, patrol officers Javier Martinez and Kyle Keane remained in the Dunkin’, after closing, and members of the Investigations Division conducted surveillance of the suspect and business.

Police note they followed Austin L. Lopez, 22, of Cohoes, from Cohoes to the business and at 8:20 p.m. and say they observed Lopez entering the business with a key and attempting to steal money from the register. The patrol officers inside were able to take the Lopez into custody without incident.

Lopez had been terminated from Dunkin’ in February and he kept a key to the business and was familiar with the register code, according to police.

Lopez was charged with eight counts of felony third- degree burglary, seven counts of misdemeanor petit larceny and one count of misdemeanor attempted petit larceny.

In addition, Lopez was sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility as a pre-arraignment detainee.
