RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. »
County officials are pleased to see hospitalizations related to COVID-19 fall to the lowest level in months.
As of Friday, the county had two residents in the hospital, including none in the ICU.
There is one at Samaritan and one at Albany Medical Center hospitals. There are approximately 120 residents in quarantine. There have been 29 deaths of residents from COVID-19.
“This is very good news as hospitalizations are a key indicator of how our cases are progressing,” Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said.
The county also reported more good news on Friday with only 49 active cases of the 537 total confirmed COVID-19 cases. There have been over 550 clearances to date.
“Rensselaer County currently has under 50 active cases and we feel like we are continuing to beat COVID-19 and following a path to return to normalcy,” McLaughlin said.
Six new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed to the Rensselaer County Health Department.
The five new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 537 cases.
The new cases include:
• A new case involving a 27-year- old Troy man.

The county has also tallied 11,436 tests to date. The county has not seen a dramatic jump in cases, despite more testing.
“The numbers of new cases has been fairly level, despite the county seeing literally several thousand new tests in recent weeks. That is also good news,” McLaughlin said.
McLaughlin noted the rally in
memory of George Floyd planned for Sunday in Troy. The county has been working with public service partners to ensure a peaceful
gathering in the Collar City.
“We expect a peaceful gathering in Troy on Sunday. We have worked to be prepared in the event there is a disturbance or disruption. We recognize the right to assemble and protest, just as we recognize the need to protect per
sonal safety and property,” McLaughlin said.
