CAPITAL REGION POLISH
FEST: The once-canceled Capital Region PolishFest is back on, virtually. The annual PolishFest has become an important regional event, showcasing an unexpectedly diverse selection of Slavic food, music, dance art, historical presentations, and literature. A few inspired souls decided to make an online PolishFest happen. The team has pulled together more than 12hours of festival fun, to be livestreamed on Facebook in real time starting at noon Saturday, June 13and noon Sunday, June 14. The livestream will be available for free at Facebook.com\ PolishFestNY. Headlining this year’s festival will be Jane Frances Kaczmarek, the award-winning Polish American actress best known for her role as Lois, the overbearing mother on the sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle. ard-winning Polishborn actress Beata Pozniak is also headlining the event. Pozniak has been featured in several acclaimed films, such as Oliver Stone’s JFK. She won the 2019Earphones Award for the bestread audiobook Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead written by Nobel Prize Winner Olga Tokarczuk. Along the Hollywood theme, Sean Bobbitt, producer of the Oscar nominated Polish film, Loving Vincent, will also be interviewed. The event will include appearances from Polka celebrities (Randy Koslosky, Nathan Neuman, The Buffalo Touch and more), a Chopin piano recital, a jazz concert and several other musical acts, including an appearance by local viola celebrity, Tania Susi. There will be dance instruction, just for our online PolishFest, straight from Poland by the awardwinning Śląsk dance troupe and a Polka dance challenge by the St. Adalbert’s Dancers. There will be historical presentations, readings of Polish American literature, storytelling, and even some DIY-infused vodka demonstrations. And, since it can’t really be PolishFest without the mouthwatering Polish food, a limited number of Polish Platters will be available for pick up at the Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Parish, 250 Old Maxwell Road, Latham. Orders must be made in advance, online, at www. bvmc.org/polishfestfoodsale. The quantities are limited, so make your orders early. PolishFest is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa parish, so the virtual PolishFest will include an online Silent Auction and there will be a prominent donate button on the www.bvmc.org website. For more information, please visit the PolishFest website at PolishFest-NY.org or the Facebook page listed above. BLOOD DRIVE: An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 7a.m. to 3p.m. on Sunday, June 14 at the Everett Road Blood Donation Center, located at 33Everett Rd. in Albany. BEEKMAN STREET ART FAIR: CANCELED - The 8th annual Beekman Street Art Fair scheduled for Sunday, June 14, 2020has been cancelled due to the Covid-19pandemic. Thanks to the flexibility of funding agencies, generosity of supporters and creativity of the event planners, fair goers will still get to browse and purchase an amazing variety of fine art and craft. Project managers are working with grantor Saratoga Arts to use the funds awarded for the fair on some alternate events later in the summer that will follow City and State guidelines for public safety. The first event being planned is an online auction accessed through the Beekman Street Arts District website at SaratogaArtDistrict.com. The auction will go live on June 7, 2020and run for 2weeks straddling what would have been the actual fair date of June 14, 2020. The online auction put together by Arts Spark will feature the work of artists who would have participated in this year’s fair. After the auction the e-commerce site will remain, allowing BSAF artists and Saratoga Springs Arts District, Inc. members the opportunity to sell online all year through the website. If it is deemed safe to do so, the project team is also planning to host three late summer Second Sunday Pop-Up Art events on the lawns, porches, and interiors of the Arts District shops. These would be held on the second Sundays of each month - July 12, August 9, and Sept 13, 2020. The idea is to have a different set of 2020BSAF artists each week along with strolling musicians and street performers for small scale festive, family friendly events.
