Albany County reports 7 newcases

ALBANY, N.Y. » County officials announced seven new COVID-19 cases on Monday.

There are 1,799 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County to date.

Additional­ly, there are now 558 people under mandatory quarantine and six people under precaution­ary quarantine.

The five- day average for new daily positives is now 9. So far, 4,915 individual­s have completed quarantine, with 1,482 of them having tested positive and recovered. The recovery rate for Albany County now stands at 82.37%.

There have been no county residents reported to have passed away overnight, keeping the death toll at 115. There are currently 13 individual­s hospitaliz­ed, bringing the hospitaliz­ation rate to 0.7%, up slightly from 0.66% on Sunday. There is currently one individual in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

McCoy highlighte­d the Albany County Stay Safe teen challenge and urged residents to continue to follow social distancing and mask guidelines.

If we’re not careful, we’re risking the health and safety of others, as well as the timeline of our reopening and getting people back to work. I’m asking everyone to please continue to do their part to keep this curve flat,” he added.

The theme for Week 4 of the #AlbanyCoun­tyStaySafe teen challenge, a partnershi­p between Albany County, the Albany Police Athletic League and AT&T, is “Recycling Week.” They’re asking those between the ages of 13 and 18 to post a photo or video on new ways to cut back on waste being sent to landfills during the COVID-19 pandemic with the hashtag #AlbanyCoun­tyStaySafe by Saturday, June 13 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will receive a $25 gift card to a local business. McCoy also announced the winners of the Week 2 challenge: Jakiem Walden and Colin Ingraham showing their appreciati­on for their teachers during a time of distanced learning.
