- By Nicholas Buonanno

RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. » Over the past two days, the county has reported only three new coronavirus cases.

The new cases bring the total to 546 confirmed cases, however, there are 41 active cases in the county. There have been 29 deaths of residents from COVID-19. The new cases include:

• A new case involving a 46-year-old Schodack woman. • A new case involving a 47-year-old Troy man. • A new case involving a 35-year-old Rensselaer man. There are no county residents currently hospitalized, and none in the ICU. There are 119 residents in quarantine.w “Hospitalizations are a great indicator of whether we are beating COVID-19. And we are now seeing great numbers with no one in the hospital and no one in ICU,” Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said on Thursday. These are the lowest hospitalization numbers since the outbreak started in the county in March. That is definitely promising as we move through the reopening process,” he added. The county is expected to reach Phase 3 of the state reopening by next Wednesday. Other local officials have recently joined McLaughlin’s call for a faster reopening. “The numbers across the region have stabilized significantly and we are more than meeting the metrics set by the state. We believe we can safely reopen and allow for a return to quality and restoration of our economy,” McLaughlin said. There have been 13,794 tests administered to county residents, including 250 tests recorded Wednesday. Residents can be tested for COVID-19 at two sites in Rensselaer County this week.
