RENSSELAER COUNTY, N. Y. » County Executive Steve McLaughlin believes the county has been doing a good job at containing the coronavirus outbreak.

A new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed to the Rensselaer County Health Department, it was announced Sunday. The new case brings the total number of cases in the county to 553 cases.

The county also announced two new cases cleared for recovery. There are now 492 cleared cases in the county. There are now 32 active cases in the county (corrects a mistake in active cases in Saturday’s report). The new case includes:

• A new case involving a 28-year- old North Greenbush woman.

“We continue to see stable numbers for COVID-19 and that is good news as we prepare to enter Phase Three this week. Our county is definitely containing the outbreak as we head into summer,” McLaughlin said on Sunday.

There is currently one resident in the hospital and no resident in the ICU. There are now 120 residents in quarantine.

“A key area is hospitalizations, which have been very low for our county. During the past week, we have either had no one in the hospital or had only one. That is definite progress,” McLaughlin said.

There have been 14,688 tests administered to residents, including 302 cases recorded on Saturday.

The IMA Group and Lab Corp will continue to do testing at Hudson Valley Community College Monday through Friday, from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling 1- 800-245- 4245.

“We are seeing great common sense and patience from the majority of our residents and businesses. They are working hard to ensure a safe and healthy reopening and to help our county move through the reopening process,” McLaughlin said.

“The numbers have been stable and low enough for weeks in this region. We believe the reopening process can be accelerated safely, and that feeling is supported by other local officials from both sides of the political aisle in the region,” McLaughlin added.
