Rensselaer County Public Health Director Mary Fran Wachunas noted that in recent days the county has seen several cases that can be traced back to out of state travel.

“We want residents to be very careful and aware if they are traveling out of state, and to follow social distancing and other common- sense precautions,” Wachunas said.

“Cases have leveled off significantly here in Rensselaer County but we have seen a jump in cases that can be related to travel in other regions of the country. This includes cases of county residents who tested positive in other states and then returned home. Before traveling, residents are invited to call the county Health Department for advice,” she added.

Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said the county will close down its testing site at Hudson Valley Community College this Friday since they are averaging about 15 people a day outside of Van Rensselaer Manor employees being tested.

“It’s costing us a fortune, and no one is getting tested,” McLaughlin said. “People aren’t showing up anymore. These are not free and it costs us a ton of money.”
