Two local counties announce new death

ALBANY, N.Y. » Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced a new death linked to COVID-19 in the county.

A woman in her 70s died from the virus. That brings the confirmed death toll to 121 in Albany County.

“Sadly, I have to report today the passing of a woman in her 70s with underlying health conditions. While she is the first COVID-related death since June 15, it pains me all the same. My thoughts, prayers, and condolence­s are with her family while they grieve,” McCoy stated.

“The latest victim and the 120 others from Albany County are powerful reminders of the gravity of the situation we are in right now, that the decisions we make each day have real consequenc­es,” McCoy continued.

“I’m asking everyone to continue to do their part to practice social distancing, wear masks while out in public, and get tested if you’re sick so we don’t take any steps backward,” McCoy added.

As of Wednesday morning, there have been 1,865 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County, an increase of one since Tuesday. Additional­ly, there are now 149 people under mandatory quarantine, and still no one currently under precaution­ary quarantine.

The five- day average for new daily positive cases is now 3.6. There are currently 24 active cases of COVID-19. Thus far, 5,637 people have completed quarantine, with 1,841 of them having tested positive and recovered.

Presently there are six people hospitaliz­ed, down from eight on Tuesday. The hospitaliz­ation rate is now 0.32%, which is down from 0.42% Tuesday. There is one person in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Meanwhile, eight new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed to the Rensselaer County Health Department it was announced on Wednesday. There are now 582 confirmed cases in the county.

The county also announced the 30 death of a resident from COVID-19, with a 78-year-old East Greenbush woman passing away.

The county now has 30 active cases of COVID-19 following two releases on Wednesday.

Five of the eight new cases related to travel out of state, including travel by a family. On Monday, the county announced six new cases, with half of those cases coming from out of state travel. The new cases include:

• A new case involving a 24-year- old Troy woman.

• A new case involving a 26-year- old East Greenbush man.

• A new case involving a 25-year- old East Greenbush man.

• A new case involving a 23-year- old Rensselaer woman.

• A new case involving a 22-year- old East Greenbush woman.

• A new case involving a 21-year- old East Greenbush man.

• A new case involving a 20-year- old Troy woman.

• A new case involving a 51-year- old Troy woman.

There are now three residents in the hospital, including two in the ICU. There are now 142

residents in monitor quarantine.

There have been 17,851 tests administer­ed to residents, including 417 tests recorded Tuesday.

With the two cleared for recovery, the county now has 522 cleared cases.

Over in Saratoga County, there have been 539 total confirmed COVID-19 cases with 24 active cases.

Saratoga County has reported 17 deaths and one person is currently hospitaliz­ed. To date, 22,754 county residents have been tested for COVID-19.
