Brewers Association announces culinary and craft beer pairing
ROCHESTER, N.Y. » The New York State Brewers Association is putting the spotlight on New York state ingredients in their upcoming event, the New York State ( NYS) Culinary & Craft Beer Pairing.
Scheduled for Friday, July 17, the 90-minute virtual experience will walk participants through making a gourmet meal using 100% NYS grown ingredients and include a guided beer tasting that beautifully complements the savory flavors of the two- course meal for two.
Event participants will receive 100% New York state ingredients to prepare All’ Amatriciana for the main dish, 32oz of two different beers from Strong Rope Brewery, a NYS Farm Brewery in Brooklyn, and delicious desserts from EmyD’s Chocolates. Event passes are intended to be shared by two people with ingredients, dessert, and beer to be shipped to participants the week of July 10.
“This farm to table event celebrates everything New York state. We’re thrilled to be able to shine a light on locally grown products, ingredients, and small business,” Paul Leone, executive director of the New York State Brewers Association, explained.
“It’s an example of the craft beer and agricultural communities coming together, which can all use the public’s support right now,” Leone added.
The exclusive farm to table virtual experience will be led by Chef Samantha Buyskey, who is highly known for her cuttingedge food at Kindred Fare and the former H. J. Stead Company in Geneva, Buyskey, who also appeared on Food Network’s “Chopped,” will assist participants in preparing the entrée for two - All’ Amatriciana, a traditional Roman pasta dish - using local ingredients, including pasta from Rochester-based Flour City Pasta, salt from Syracuse Salt Co. and Bel Cielo cheese from Muranda Cheese, located in Waterloo.
Jason Sahler will lead the guided beer tasting, pairing two different styles of beer with the main course and dessert. Head Brewer and owner of Strong Rope Brewery, Sahler is dedicated to using 100% New York state ingredients in all of his beer recipes and travels extensively throughout the state working with malt, hop, and beer producers.
The virtual event’s desserts are provided by EmyD’s Chocolates out of the Hudson Valley. They are allergy-friendly, nonGMO, and vegan, with tasty options such as Brownie Batter Truffle, Oatmeal Cookie Dough Truffle, Caramel Filled Bonbon, and Fruity White Chocolate Bonbon.
Passes are $150 and include all of the meal ingredients, 64oz of beer (32oz/style), and dessert shipped directly to participant’s home, plus exclusive access to the 90-minute culinary and craft beer pairing experience held through Zoom. Registration closes on Friday, July 3 with delivery of ingredients by Friday, July 10. This event is only available to NYS residents and people at least 21 years of age.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the New York State Brewers Association (NYSBA), a nonprofit organization that supports the state’s craft beer industry through advocacy and education. Most recently, NYSBA has been fighting for temporary permitting of services like home delivery, curbside pickup, and shipment of beer to help NYS breweries remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
