NATURALIZATION CEREMONY: CANCELED: In consultation with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Saratoga National Historical Park has cancelled the Naturalization Ceremony, traditionally held on July 4. The popular event draws hundreds of visitors and participants to witness the moving ceremony of citizens taking the oath of
allegiance for the first time. The size of the crowd, and nature of the seated event, makes it unsafe to carry out during the COVID-19pandemic. The park’s operational approach while responding to the COVID-19pandemic is to examine each facility function, each service provided, and each special event to ensure those operations comply with current public health guidance and will be regularly monitored. We continue to work closely with the NPS Office of Public Health using CDC guidance to ensure public and workplaces are safe and clean for visitors, employees, partners, and volunteers. As the park anticipates being able to increase visitor access to the park when the Capital Region of New York is cleared to enter Phase 4of the “New York Forward” plan, park staff will continue to assess the health and safety of operations, and develop new ways for people to explore the park, through self-guided experiences and online activities. The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to present their summer series of historic walking tours while remaining safe and socially distanced. Summer Sunday Strolls will be offered every Sunday through Sept. 6at 10:30a.m. in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tour topics this season highlight prominent women of Greenridge Cemetery, the celebrated area surrounding the Saratoga Race Course, and the historic Spa State Park, among many others. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Due to current restrictions in New York State, Summer Strolls will be limited to 20 guests, which currently is less than the maximum of 25 that is currently allowed, and tickets must be purchased in advance until otherwise noted. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and social distancing will be encouraged when possible. The cost per tour is $15for SSPF members and $20for non-members. Local short-story writer Dave Sylvester hosts The Short Story Café, an informal discussion of the short story form that examines how writers handle structural elements such as plot, character and theme in their writing. HISTORICAL PRESENTATION: The Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site in Fort Hunter and the Fulton County Historical Society are teaming up to present a virtual two program series. On July 8th at 6:30pm, Schoharie Crossing Education Director David Brooks will present “15Miles on the Sacandaga Canal? - The Canal Craze,” discussing the construction and success of the Erie Canal and the subsequent “canal craze” that sparked the idea of a Great Sacandaga Canal. On July 15th at 6:30pm, Fulton County Historical Society Executive Director Samantha Hall-Saladino will present “Sacandaga Soiree: Tides and Tourism,” exploring the tourism boom on the Great Sacandaga Lake from the 1940s to the present. These programs will be presented virtually via Webex. RIES: A new “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussions is being offered by the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. The second event of the series will be Kathleen Royka of the Thymely Herb group, who will provide a workshop on gardening with herbs at 7pm on July 9. Skidmore professor, Dr. Tillman Nechtman will follow with a discussion on July 23at 7pm based on his research on Britain’s use of the ocean as a world power. New York’s role in early 19 th century religious revivals will be explored by Dr. Jennifer Dorsey of Siena College on August 27, also at 7pm. This event will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center. Tickets for the event are at the Brookside Museum website or Saratoga County Historical Society’s Facebook page. Donations with a minimum $5 fee are requested to support the activities of the history

BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is pleased to offer its popular bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on three occasions this summer. Join Linda
Harvey-Opiteck on Saturday, July 11th, Saturday, August 22nd, or Sunday, September 27th for a tour of the park to explore its historic development from 1910to the present, highlighting its significant architecture and landscape while remaining socially distant. Bike through the beautiful outdoors along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressive story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservation, and its development as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreational destination. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $20for SSPF Members and $25for non-members. Tour will last approximately three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20and tickets must be purchased in advance. RIES: A new “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussions is being offered by the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. Skidmore professor, Dr. Tillman Nechtman will lead a discussion on July 23at 7 pm based on his research on Britain’s use of the ocean as a world power. New York’s role in early 19th century religious revivals will be explored by Dr. Jennifer Dorsey of Siena College on August 27, also at 7pm. This event will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center. Tickets for the event are at the Brookside Museum website or Saratoga County Historical Society’s Facebook page. Donations with a minimum $5fee are requested to support the activities of the history center. A link to the Zoom event will be emailed out to those who have purchased tickets. Saturday, July 25 ART EXHIBIT: Hudson Hall is proud to reopen its doors on June 27, 2020with Rodney Alan Greenblat’s aptly-titled, Something to Look Forward to, an enjoyable, whimsical and engaging collection of new and archival works bursting with color and underpinned with wit and charm. The exhibition, which runs until August 23in Hudson Hall’s Center Hall Gallery and Common Council Room, is free and open to the public on a limited, timed entry, reservation-only basis (maximum 10entries per hour). Socially-distanced guided tours ($10, free for members, maximum of 6per tour) take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 4pm.
