POOL OPENING
Residents will be able to swim beginning July 5 at the municipal pool
COHOES, N.Y. » Mayor Bill Keeler revealed that Lansing’s Pool will be open to Cohoes residents beginning on Sunday, July 5.
The pool will be open for four sessions each day, a maximum of 80 Cohoes residents with ID will be allowed into the pool grounds each session, and a range of other COVID-19 safety precautions will be implemented.
“We want Cohoes residents to be able to take advantage of Lansing’s Pool this summer, but that will require new rules and safety measures during this COVID-19 pandemic,” Keeler said.
“For generations, Lansing’s Pool has been the hub for summer recreation in our community. Though this year will be a bit different, it will work if we all work together to have a safe and enjoyable summer,” Keeler added.
Lansing’s pool will be open each day from:
11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“A maximum of 80 city residents - showing proof of residency in Cohoes - will be al
lowed into the pool grounds each session,” Cohoes Human Services and Recreation Director Dan Hytko commented.
“Residents must arrive dressed to swim because there will be no public changing areas. People will not be allowed to bring food or drinks into the pool grounds,” Hytko explained.
“Basic common sense safety precautions will apply including social distancing, wearing a mask when not in the pool, and staying home if you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who is sick,” Keeler added.
In addition to wearing a mask when not swimming, there will be no congregating in the pool area, no group activities, and no jumping in from the pool sides. The diving section of the pool will be closed for the season.
For the safety of guests and staff, the restrooms and public benches will be cleaned every 30 minutes, and the pool grounds will be cleared between each of the four sessions for 30 minutes of cleaning.
Due to space limitations required for safe social distancing, non-residents will not be allowed at Lansing’s Park pool this year. There also will be no swim lessons and no designated adult swim times.
