ATHLETICS 4, GLENS FALLS INDEPENDENTS 3 GAME 2 | ALBANY ATHLETICS 15, GLENS FALLS INDEPENDENTS 0

-

Albany pitchers combined to strike out 15 opposing batters and did not record a walk or hit batter until the seventh inning.

Bryan Carroll, a Saint Rose pitcher, started the second game for Albany, however he was removed after one inning, which was interrupted after a freak injury to the Independents three-hitter, Sal Pezzolla.

On a foul tip, the ball came off of Pezzolla’s bat in an unusual way, hitting the East Greenbush native and Saint Anselm infielder squarely in his right eye. While the moment was scary to watch, the senior mainly expressed frustration that he would no longer be able to continue playing, as he was tended to by trainers and paramedics.

Due to the nature and location of the injury, extra precautions were necessary, as he was taken off the field by paramedics.

Hunter Harris took over in the second inning for Albany and only got better as the game progressed, striking out eight over four innings of work. The Cypress College pitcher gave up two hits, while striking out the side, in order, in each the fourth and fifth innings. Harris earned the victory in the second game.

He was followed by Nick Zuba, a Saint Rose pitcher, who retired the side in order in the sixth. Kyle Lambert got in a second inning of work on the day, closing out the seventh inning, although he struggled with the strike zone. After loading the bases on two walks and a hit batter, he was able to work his way out of the jam and complete the 15- 0 shutout victory.

To cap off the night, Brendan Harris drilled a home run to straight-away centerfield, while Tim Carroll went two-for-four in the game with a single, double and a RBI.

The A’s retain their perfect record, moving to 7- 0 on the season, while Glens Falls drops to 0- 6.
