TROY, N.Y. » As the Capital Region reopens, the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District has scheduled the return of its annual summer events, modified for attendees to enjoy in safe, physically distanced ways.

The season invites residents and visitors alike to experience live music, shopping, children’s activities, fitness, and fun.

Returning events include Fitness in the Park, the Troy River Fest Ramble, Rockin’ at Sage Park instead of the Rockin’ on the River concert series, and a Grown-Up Scavenger Hunt in lieu of the Capital Region GrownUp Egg Hunt.

These popular summer events will transition to limited capacity and socially distanced experiences for participants to enjoy comfortably outdoors throughout the city.

“Downtown Troy welcomes you back in safe, physically distanced ways with a diverse lineup of summer programming,” Katie Hammon, executive director of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District, said in a press release. “This year’s events will look a bit different as we keep the safety of our community at the forefront of our planning, and scale back creating new ways to interact with downtown.

“We are excited to be able to offer fun physically distanced experiences while inviting individuals back to our business community for shopping, dining, and exploring alongside the events!”

The season will begin this Sunday with Fitness In The Park. Free yoga classes will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Sundays from July 19 through Sept. 6 at William D. Chamberlain Riverfront Park in downtown Troy. Guests can practice yoga while taking in views of the Hudson River and with the morning sounds of the city, all in a safe, physically distanced environment. Instruction is provided by Heartspace Yoga & Healing Arts with distanced circles designated on the grass.

The week, Rockin’ At Sage Park will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays July 22 through Sept. 9 at 51 Congress St. in Troy. Lineups will be announced weekly. Rockin’ on the River has partnered with Summer Square and transitioned into Rockin’ at Sage Park for a small scale concert series with local performers.

With regulations on event size, attendance will be limited to 40 individuals with reservations for free tickets online. Physically distanced circles will be designated on the grass for seating with each family unit. Spectators can bring picnic blankets or lounge chairs and order takeout from downtown restaurants to enjoy alongside the live music each week.

“We are thrilled to provide funding for safe and responsible activities that also encourage patronage of the Troy businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Steve Strichman, executive director of the Troy Capital Resource Corporation, said in the release. “Collaborations like Summer Square, including the activation of Sage Park each week, show the strength of our community as we band together to build back stronger in the face of these new challenges.”
