AMSTERDAM, NY » The Mohawks had their bats out early against the Independents, taking game one of their double header by a score of 13-1.

The second game would be one of the shortest official games anyone could ever play, after being called due to rain. Amsterdam took the win in game two over Glen Falls 5- 0, after scoring all five runs in the bottom of the third.

Those runs would count for Amsterdam, as it was the bottom half of the inning and Glens Falls already had a chance to bat in the frame.

“I thought they were going to wait it out,” said Andrew Pedone, who drilled a triple to deep rightcenter field on the final play of the game.

“I really wanted to get that triple, because I got held up at second earlier,” Pedone added, who had two doubles on the day prior to the long triple.

The second game officially goes down in the books as a complete game shutout for Mohawks starting pitcher Dan Parslow, who allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out six in his three innings of work.

“I know that I wanted to keep going,” Pedone said.

The Mohawks got off to a fast start in the first game, scoring eight runs in the first inning, and were led early by Joe Novenche, who had a single and double, with 2 RBIs in game one. Brendan Di

Brendan Disonell picked up the win, going three scoreless and hitless innings.

Game two began as a pitchers dual, but as the rain picked up Glens Falls started to make some mistakes in the field and lose the strike zone.

Devin Disonell led off the bottom third inning with a home run to left field, just keeping it fair.

With the umpire in the middle of the field, the home run was confirmed fair by the Glens Falls catcher.

With the score now 1- 0, walks and errors would load the bases. Joe Novenche walked with the bases loaded for the second run, Reilly Hall scored on a wild pitch, Jake Reinisch drove in the fourth run on a sac fly and Pedone tripled in the fifth and final run before Steve St. Claire, the Independents head coach, came out to make a pitching change.

They wouldn’t make it any further into the game than that, as the umpire ushered both teams to the dugouts shortly after the change was made.

The Mohawks will face the Athletics in Amsterdam on Saturday July 18 at 5 p.m. for a double-header. The Independents will play two against the Dutch on Saturday as well, in Glens Falls.
