Troy man accused of throwing molotov cocktail at police horses

TROY, N.Y. » Albany police say a Troy man was arrested following an incident in May involving a molotov cocktail being thrown at four police officers and their police horses during a riot.

Dwight Parker, 38, of Troy, was arrested Thursday morning in the City of Troy following an investigat­ion by detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigat­ion Unit. Parker was arrested at his residence with the assistance of the Troy Police Department.

On Saturday, May 30, at around 9:15 p.m., police say Parker threw a molotov cocktail incendiary device at four police officers on horseback during a riot that was taking place in the area of South Pearl and Arch Streets in Albany. As a result, the incendiary device exploded directly at the feet of four police officers who were on horseback.

Parker was charged with four counts of first- degree attempted assault, four counts of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, four counts of attempting to injure a police animal and one count of first- degree reckless en

dangerment.

Shalene Allen, 37, and Imari Allen, 18, who are Parker’s wife and daughter, were also arrested for their alleged roles in the riot. They were each charged with one count of first- degree inciting a riot.

Parker was arraigned Thursday morning in Albany Criminal Court. Bail was set at $40,000.

Imari Allen and Shalene Allen are scheduled to be arraigned on August 8.

Additional­ly, at the time of their arrests, the City of Troy Police Department confirmed they recovered a loaded handgun from inside the residence.

Further charges pertaining to the handgun are forthcomin­g by Troy police.
