Project to replace training tower to move forward Monday
NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. » The project to replace the outdated and closed training facility for emergency services in Rensselaer County will take a major step forward on Monday, with demolition of the former tower.
The demolition will allow construction work to begin in earnest at the site, with completion expected during the next several months.
“We are very excited we will be moving forward to develop a more modern and accessible training facility for the brave men and women who serve to keep us safe every day,” Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said.
The development of a new training tower is a priority for McLaughlin. The tower and facility have been closed before McLaughlin took office, and there were often interruptions in service at the facility because of instability.
“We get tremendous service from our fire and ambulance companies, and this is one small way to repay them for their tireless dedication to our county,” McLaughlin explained.
This past week some members of the Rensselaer County Legislature attended a meeting with Rensselaer County Public Safety officials to review the proposal to replace the County Fire Training Facility on North Greenbush.
Vice Chair Kelly Hipwell Hoffman, and Legislators Todd Tesman and Tom Grant were pleased to review the designs and to learn that demolition of the old buildings have begun.
County Director of Central Services James Gordon led the presentation and said that they expect to complete construction in early 2021.
The demolition is set for 9 a.m. on Monday at the facility, which is located on Macha Lane, off
State Route 150, in North Greenbush.
